Other Coastal ActivitiesExploring opportunities to pilot marine and coas 17-06-2003 In 1999 DEFRA set up a review of Marine Nature Conservation to examine the effectiveness of the UK system for the protection of the nature conservation in the marine environment. The Interim report and recommendations produced in March 2001 proposed the need for a pilot study to examine ways of integrating nature conservation into key sectors at the regional scale. The recognition of the ecological distinctiveness of the Irish Sea area made this an ideal candidate for the pilot study. The pilot study will examine the potential for regional sea management over the whole of the Irish Sea.
